A one-day course covering the roles and responsibilities of a committee, the Chair, Treasurer, Secretary and other committee members and how to run successful meetings. A great course for anyone who is new to committees or someone who wants refresher course and pick up new skills and tips!

Pre Volunteer Course

An opportunity for anybody who is thinking of getting involved in volunteering to find out what it’s all about. We will spend the time informally looking at the benefits volunteering can give. There will also be time to explore the expectations of both volunteers and volunteer involving organisations. The course will end with a opportunity search to show the wide variety of opportunities that exist.

Develop your training skills

This active participative course will equip you to run training courses successfully. You will understand how to create an effective learning environment and practice the skills needed to deliver training and to manage groups of learners.

The Editor of Tameside Advertiser will show you how to write a good press release and show examples of ones that have been successful. You will create a press release for your group. There will also be an opportunity to ask the Editor questions.

Youth Volunteering

More and more organisations are beginning to involve young people as volunteers. This session will make them think about the ways in which to engage with young volunteers and ensure good practice:-
- have defined ways in which organisations can use young people as volunteers
- have discussed the difficulties a young volunteer would face in various roles
- have recognised the barriers to youth volunteering
- have identified how an organisation could reduce the barriers and difficulties faced by young volunteers
- have considered appropriate ways to aid the recruitment and continued involvement of young people as volunteers
- have explored good practice issues that need to be in place for youth volunteering

Safeguarding - what you need to know!

Many of you have been asking us about how vetting and barring will affect recruiting volunteers and paid workers, Independent Safeguarding Association is the new body set up by the Home Office to manage the new scheme.
The Safeguarding “What you need to know!” event will have a guest speaker from the Home Office who will make a presentation and be available for a question and answer session. There will also be a selection of workshops all with a legal theme around safeguarding. More details will be available soon.
Places are limited and strictly on a first come basis.

Getting things for free
3rd June

It’s getting harder and harder to get funding to run community groups so this course is designed to give you some practical tips so you can get things for free. You will share ideas with other groups and learn how to get goods and items, support from experts, and sponsorship. This will be an fun, interactive 2 hours.

Safeguarding Young People
10th June
5.30pm - 9pm
This is a basic awareness raising session in promoting welfare and safeguarding children. Its aim is to enable participants to recognise concerns about children and respond appropriately. All workers who come into contact with children, young people and parents require this training. By the end of the course you will:-
- Be aware of what is meant by child abuse and neglect
- Be aware of your role in keeping children safe
- Be able to take the right steps to protect children
- Be able to provide a safe environment for the children you work with

Managing Time
22nd June
9.30am - 12.30pm
If you have ever heard yourself say “I wish there were more hours in the day” then this workshop could be just what you need. We will start by looking at the consequences of not managing our time and proceed to identify methods of managing the process effectively. We will look at the things that steal our time and how to deal with them. How about interruptions, how intrusive can they be, let’s look at how we could deal with them. The time spent on this workshop could pay for itself in a month. Can you find the time to book a place?

Recruiting Volunteers

If you are considering this course it must mean that you need more volunteers, in this session we will look at creating a effective recruitment system, identifying different methods of recruitment and examining the benefits of a targeted recruitment campaign.
